SAN ANTONIO-HER TRADE,
power is supplied by an engine of 15 horse-power. Mr. Morgan manufac-
tures sash, doors, blinds, flooring, siding, brackets, etc. He makes a spec-
ialty of glazed sash and moulding. He is prepared to furnish estimates
for any goods in his line, finished in a most thorough and workmanlike
manner. He employs none but skillful and experienced workmen, and
uses nothing but the most thoroughly seasoned lumber, as choice material
as ever tempted the tooth of a saw or invited the whetted edge of a planer.
His trade extends through Texas and into Mexico, his annual transactions
reaching $30,000. Twenty-five years of practical experience, four of which
he has been engaged in business on his own account, entitles Mr. Morgan
to the respect and confidence he has fairly won, and serves to place his
establishment among the best, most successful and solidest in San Antonio.
POLITZER & CO.—Furniture Dealers and Auctioneers; No. 25 South-
west corner of Military Plaza.
The present age is a busy and a progressive one, with competition in
all lines of business so energetic and vigilant as to require the utmost per-
severance and enterprise to gain success and keep pace with the times.
But while this is proverbially true, there are instances where unceasing
perseverance, long trained experience and thorough knowledge of business
rises superior to competition and ensures success. And in no branch of
business do these remarks apply with more force than to the furniture and
auction business, two branches which seem to be naturally congenial.
Both of them require experience, and one, auctioneering, natural aptitude
and inclination. San Antonio is well supplied with establishments of this
class, and as regards extent of business, that of Politzer & Co. is the
largest as regards experience in the business, it is decidedly the foremost.
This house was started in 1872. In 1885, Mr. Politzer became a partner,
and the title was changed to the present style. The partners composing
the firm are L. Politzer and 0. Petitpain. The latter has an experience in
the business of twenty-five years ; in fact, he may be said to have been
born in it, as his father was for years the leading auctioneer in New Or-
leans. They carry in stock a good assortment of furniture of different
kinds to suit the ordinary demand, and have regular auctions Mondays,
Wednesdays and Saturdays. There are few branches of business that re-
quire the peculiar temperament of the auctioneer—patience, geniality and
wit, the quick eye to both catch and draw on the undecided bidder, and
the honest purpose to deceive neither the buyer nor seller. These points,
or rather qualifications, Mr. Petitpain possesses in perfection, and hence
he has become not only a popular furniture dealer, but a favorite auc-
tioneer. They also sell real estate, houses, bonds, or property of various
kinds, and in this department of their business, Mr. Petitpain has achieved
a prominent position and gained the confidence of the public in a notewor-
thy degree. Their business extends through Western Texas, their annual
transactions reaching from $60,000 to $70,000. They employ five hands.
Mr. Petitpain has been a resident of Texas for twelve years. Prompt, re-
liable, enterprising, and conducting their business upon principles of sound
mercantile integrity, they justly merit the credit, reputation and confidence
which they have acquired.
