of harness trimmings. They deal extensively in Mexican hair, bridles,

buffalo and bear robes, angora, wolf, fox and other skins. They are

bits, stirrups, etc. In the manufacturing department all the best modern
machinery and mechanical appliances for rapid and perfect work are used.
Thirteen skilled and experienced hands are constantly employed. They
carry an average stock of $25, 000 in value. Their trade extends through
this State and into Mexico ; the annual transactions reaching $85,000.
This business was established in 1868 by C. S. Noyes ; Chas. J. Langholz
becoming a partner in 1883. The former has resided in Texas since 1865,
the latter since 1868. Both gentlemen are practical in the business, each
having an active experience in this pursuit, measured by the years of their
business live. They are enterprising citizens, and their thorough practical
knowledge and experience, coupled with energy and legitimate business
principles, has gained for them an honorable position among the manu-
facturing and prominent business men of this growing city.

              D. S. BURNS—Cement, Lime, Builders' Material ; 100 to 106 Losoya
                    Street.
To the collector of statistical data of the business interests of San
Antonio, facts bearing on her most important facilities and resources, are
more apparent than to the casual visitor, or even to a resident. Special
branches of industry, that are contributing more than most others, not
only to her extension and improvement, but to her solidity and attractive
appearance, present stronger claims for recognition than other branches.
Among these, all branches connected with the building resources and
facilities, are worthy of special mention. The special branch of commer-
cial industry pursued by Mr. Burns, is one of such importance, and withal,
so conducive and necessary to the industrial advantages of this section, as
to merit individual mention. The only establishment in San Antonio en-
gaged in this special line, in connection with builders supplies generally,
is that of D. S. Burns, and no branch is carrying forward a more promising
and growing business. This business was established in 1876, in good
shape, and for the period inclusive since that date, has supplied the dealers
of the city and neighborhood throughout Western Texas, with some of
the most important materials, entering into the construction of buildings.
Thorough knowledge of his business, attention to his custom and strictly
fair dealing, have made their effects visible, and his establishment has be-
come the headquarters for articles in his line, not only in this city, but in
Western Texas and Mexico. His business premises are favorably situated
near the business center, consisting of an iron-clad building, 40 by 70 feet
in size, with an adjoining yard for storage, 110 by 140 feet. He also
operates a patent or perpetual lime-kiln, in connection with which are his
