exhibit, and many of them are trophies of his own rifle. He has been indefatigable in pursuit of

novelties, and of course, to such a man the whole world becomes a contributor.

The illustrations of this catalogue represent only selected specimens of the great collection

—about one-third of the whole--there being about one thousand all told. Another element of it is
a collection of rattles of rattlesnakes wrought in various artistic designs, which is the work of
Mrs. Albert Friedrich. This work is artistically arranged in the shape of a deer, anchor, eagle, etc.,
and any one will be well repaid for their time spent in examining these specimens. The rattles of

this most deadly of all reptiles used number over eight thousand.

This resort now enjoys the distinction of being the only saloon in San Antonio, Texas, and

perhaps in the whole South, which ladies visit. It is estimated that no fewer than five hundred and
probably as many as twenty-five hundred ladies visit it monthly. To ladies and their escorts it is
open exclusively on election days, although there are visitors every day, as it is an orderly and
                               respectable place.

The various elements forming the general collection at this popular and interesting resort
have extensively advertised it, but its proprietor has been so persistently beset for information

concerning these specimens that he has been compelled to publish this booklet. In it, specimens of
each class, character and family included, have been classified, illustrated and numbered conveniently
so that the reader can obtain a correct description and adequate information concerning each, and at
the same time, retain a handsome and valuable souvenir of this interesting attraction of San Antonio,

Texas. The proprietor takes delight in explaining his collection to visitors and the descriptive
portion of this catalogue is given in his own language.
                                                                                                               THE PUBLISHER.
